Molly Worthen, professor of history; But last August something changed. “I became a Christian”

Molly Worthen, professor of history at University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, is no stranger to evangelicalism. She has long chronicled our history, with a well-received book and periodic commentary appearing in the pages of The New York Times. But last August something changed. “I became a Christian,” Worthen says.

It’s hard to summarize this wide-ranging, 90-minute conversation between Collin Hansen and Molly Worthen, but here are some things you may take away from this:

  • The importance of friendship in the context of evangelism
  • The usefulness of books in exploring deeper questions about the Christian faith—and the way fiction (even science fiction!) can communicate truth
  • The role of the local church in commending the truths of the gospel through its worship, preaching, and ordinances The need to take intellectual questions seriously and give honest, thoughtful answers
  • The simplicity of faith in the Lord Jesus, even for a well-regarded and accomplished academic

Don’t take my word for it. Enjoy listening to this conversation with a sister in Christ. And be encouraged: Jesus saves!
